Privacy policy

PDFNEO is built so that your files never leave your device. This page explains, in plain language, exactly how that works and what data is — and isn't — involved.

Last updated June 1, 2026

  • 100% client-side
  • No uploads
  • Private by design
  • Works offline

The short version

  • Every tool runs entirely inside your browser
  • No file is ever uploaded to a server — ours or anyone's
  • No account, login, or email required
  • Files vanish from memory the moment you close the tab

What guides us

Privacy principles

A handful of commitments shape how PDFNEO handles — and deliberately doesn't handle — your data.

On-device by default

Your files are read, processed, and saved entirely on your own hardware. Privacy isn't a promise here — it's how the product is built.

Data minimisation

We aim to collect as little as technically possible. The best way to protect data is to never receive it in the first place.

No accounts, no profiles

There's nothing to sign up for, so there's no profile to build, no email to leak, and no login to compromise.

Plain language

No dense legalese designed to obscure. This policy says, in clear terms, exactly what does and doesn't happen to your data.

Your documents

What happens to your files

When you add a file to a tool, your browser uses the standard File API to read it directly from your device.

All processing — merging, splitting, rotating, compressing, or converting — happens on your own hardware using JavaScript and WebAssembly that ran when the page loaded. The result is generated locally and saved with a normal browser download.

Why your files physically can't reach us

There is no upload step in the code, no server that accepts documents, and no storage bucket where files could accumulate. The design itself makes a leak impossible.

Transparency

What we collect vs never collect

The honest version: the column on the right is intentionally almost empty.

What we never collect

  • Your documents — never transmitted or stored
  • Document contents — text, images, and metadata stay on your device
  • Personal accounts — we don't ask you to register
  • Cross-site tracking — no advertising or profiling

What may be processed

  • A single local theme preference on your device
  • Optional anonymous, aggregate page views (cookieless)
  • Standard, non-identifying server request logs
  • Nothing that can identify you personally

Storage

Cookies and local storage

PDFNEO uses the bare minimum, and none of it follows you around the web.

One local preference

We store a single value on your device to remember your light/dark theme (the key pdfneo-theme). It never leaves your browser.

No advertising cookies

We don't set advertising or cross-site tracking cookies, and we don't run profiling trackers of any kind.

Nothing tied to you

Any data that exists is anonymous and local. There's no identifier linking activity back to a person.

Measurement

Analytics

PDFNEO collects as little as possible, and never tracks you across the web.

Anonymous and aggregate only

PDFNEO uses no cookie-based or cross-site tracking. Any usage measurement is limited to anonymous, aggregate, cookieless page counts and never captures file contents or personally identifying information.

External services

Third-party services

The site is served as static files and fonts are self-hosted, so loading a page doesn't hand your browsing data to third parties.

Open-source engines run locally

The libraries that power the tools — such as pdf-lib, pdf.js, and Ghostscript compiled to WebAssembly — run entirely in your browser and do not phone home.

You're in control

Your rights

Most privacy rights concern data a company holds about you. Here, that set is essentially empty by design.

Nothing to access

We hold no personal data about you, so there's no profile to request, export, or review.

Nothing to delete

Because no files or personal data are stored on our side, there's nothing for you to ask us to erase.

Nothing to opt out of

There's no profiling or ad-targeting to disable — it simply doesn't exist here.

You hold the data

Your files and your single theme preference live on your device, fully under your control.

Staying current

Changes to this policy & contact

If this policy changes, the updated date at the top of the page changes with it.

The core promise — that your files are processed on your device and never uploaded — will not change. PDFNEO is also not directed at children, and because we collect no personal data, no information about any user of any age is gathered.

Frequently asked questions

Do you store or see my documents?
No. We never receive, see, or store your PDFs or images. They're processed entirely in your browser and never transmitted to us or anyone else.
Do you require an account or email?
No. There is no account, login, or email required to use any tool. You can use everything anonymously.
What cookies does PDFNEO use?
Just one piece of local storage to remember your light/dark theme preference (the key pdfneo-theme). It stays on your device and we use no advertising cookies.
Do you use analytics?
PDFNEO uses no cookie-based or cross-site tracking. Any usage measurement is limited to anonymous, aggregate, cookieless page counts — it never includes your file contents or anything that identifies you.
Is PDFNEO suitable for children?
PDFNEO is a general-purpose utility and isn't directed at children. Because we collect no personal data, no information about any user — of any age — is gathered.

Privacy that needs no trust

You don't have to take our word for it — your files simply never leave your device.
