Why your rotated PDF flips back
Most PDF viewers can turn a page, but many only rotate the view. The built-in PDF viewer in Chrome and the Rotate View command in Adobe Acrobat Reader both work this way: the page looks right while it's open, but the file itself hasn't changed. Close it, send it to someone, or print it, and the page is sideways again.
To fix a PDF for good, the rotation has to be written into the file. Each page in a PDF stores its own orientation, and a real rotator updates that value and saves a new copy.
Rotate PDF pages online, step by step
- Open the rotator. Go toRotate PDF and drop in your file. Every page appears as a thumbnail, and nothing is uploaded.
- Turn the pages that need it. Hover a page and rotate it left or right in 90° steps, or use Rotate all when the whole document is off.
- Check the preview. Thumbnails turn as you click, so you can confirm every page reads correctly before saving.
- Apply and download. The new PDF has the rotation saved in - no watermark, no account.
Which way to turn: 90°, 180° or 270°
One click turns a page 90°. If the text runs bottom-to-top, rotate right (clockwise). If it runs top-to-bottom, rotate left. An upside-down page needs 180° - two clicks in either direction. Rotating left once gives the same result as rotating right three times (270°).
Fixing a mixed scan
Scanners and phone scanning apps often get the orientation wrong on only a few pages. Rotate those pages one by one rather than the whole document. If pages are also out of order or you want to drop blank ones, useOrganize PDF, which lets you rotate, reorder and delete pages in one pass. To trim scanner borders afterwards, crop the pages.
On Windows, Mac and phones
Because PDFNEO runs in the browser, the same steps work on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iPhone - there's nothing to install. Desktop apps that save rotation, such as Preview on a Mac or the full version of Adobe Acrobat, work too. Just make sure you save the file afterwards and don't rely on a view-only rotate.
Keep private documents private
Many online rotators upload your PDF to their servers first. For contracts, IDs or medical records, that's an unnecessary risk. PDFNEO'sPDF rotator does all the work in your browser's memory, so the file never leaves your device. Read more inare online PDF tools safe?
